N-Gage Arena

On another N-Gage related point, I think that the people at Nokia have tapped my brain for their Arena services… Damn them and their riches…

Slight Delay

Alright, so maybe Friday was a bit enthusiastic. The DNS change occurred yesterday, so the new Games Kitchen mobile games portal soft-launched yesterday.  If the site doesn’t look like the screenshot below, then try doing a full refresh.

Snapshot of Gameskitchen.com

As this is still a soft-launch, be aware that some things may not quite be right. But you can provide feedback for us, in order that we can make the site work the way that you want it to. Also, although you can only buy games if you are in the UK, you can use the forums to talk about the games and the phones that you play them on, rate the games and write reviews if you have played the same game elsewhere.

The WAP edition is still in development as well, so don’t expect to see that in any usable state for a couple of weeks.  We’ll be adding new games from this week onwards (hopefully at a rate of knots).

And yes, there will be RSS feeds from the site.  More info soon.

The Games Kitchen

The Games Kitchen

I’ve shied away from writing about my day job before now, but better late than never.

I founded The Games Kitchen in July 1999, to focus on the (at the time, non-existent other than GameBoy) mobile games market.  We made some of the first WAP games, including the massively successful Wireless Pets, which is only now seeing usage drop off, over 2 years since it was launched.

Over the last four years, my business interests have changed, and as the market has gotten more successful (it is now remotely possible to make money, being the main thing), new gaps have appeared in the market.

As such, we are launching a new mobile games channel: think of it as a cross between Yahoo!, Amazon and Xbox Live. We think that there is a lot of scope for a place where people can not only get games, but also talk about them, watch their high-scores and generally take part in a community, something which has been strangely lacking from games for mobile phones.  The site will be available for use via the desktop and via the mobile.

This Friday, we’ll soft-launch our new site, which is targetted at the UK only initially. There aren’t many games in there at this moment, as we’ve been waiting on getting all our systems in place, but hopefully the collection will start to grow from this weekend onwards.
